Textual Analysis

The thriller i will be writing about and discussing for my textual analysis is The Dark Knight a 2008 superhero film directed and co-written by christopher Nolan. The main characters that i will be talikng about are the antagonist, the 'joker' and the protagonist 'Batman'.

The dark knight which is also a sub-genre of a action thriller includes many noticeable codes and conventions of typical thriller movies which are fast pace, continuous action and twists to keep the audince attentive also to create a degree of suspence. The scene opens in Gotham City, we are shown a mob of men robbing a bank. The men are tricked into shooting each other by the Joker who gets away with the loot leaving all his accomplices dead. The twist is that all the men are robbing the bank with masks unawear that their boss, (Joker) that gave them instructions to kill each other was infact one of their accomplices.
Enigma is created in the next scene when mob bosses (who owned that money that was stolen) met in an secret location to discuss what they were going to do about the stolen money, when suddenly, to our suprise they were joined by the joker who was the one who stole their money. The audince would never expected the joker to show up amongst a group of angry mobstrs who he owed money however he had a propsition for him so they listened to what he had to say. The Joker offers to kill the Batman for half the mob money, he offerded to give them half of the money and take the other half as his payment. Batman had posed as an obstical to gangster and criminals in Gotham City as he was the he had a motto to keep the clean so it would be in their favour for the Joker to get rid of him.
In the next scene Batman heads to Hong Kong to capture Lau (a member of the mob who took the rest of the money which was kept at the bank) to deliver him to Gotham City police, where Lau agrees to testify against the mob. Lieutenant Dent and Gordon arrest the mob and in retaliation the Joker issues an ultimatum to Gotham; people will die each day until Batman reveals his true identity, true to his word he claims his first victims commissinor Gillian B Loeb and the judge presiding over the mobs trails are killed. The public readily blame Batman, prompting him to reveal his true identity, eventually he decideds to do so however Dent holds a press conference to try any persuade the public not to sell out Batman just because of one terrorist.
